How to style a grey oversized blazer: 6 outfit ideas

· 5-minute read

An oversized blazer can feel as easy to wear as your favourite jacket. With a hoodie and trainers for a morning coffee, then a sheer top and slim heels for dinner.

In street style from Copenhagen clean cuts meet colourful layers and contrasting fabrics. In Paris we love the combination of a blazer, fine knitwear and denim; in New York it is the mix of generous jackets, straight jeans and sporty shoes. What appeals to us is how these outfits feel chic while leaving room for a long day in the city.

For these six looks, we styled our Suit Yourself bomber blazer. Its defined shoulders and gathered hem give each outfit its shape. Add low-rise trousers, soft layers and colours that make you want to look at your wardrobe afresh.

A pleated mini over tailored trousers

A very short pleated skirt over long trousers brings a playful touch to everyday dressing. The combination is striking, relaxed and chic. An everyday look that works just as well in the evening. Keep the skirt and trousers in similar shades of grey. The short pleats add something playful to familiar tailoring.

The skirt sits low on the hips and is really short: more a narrow band of pleats than a classic mini. Underneath, straight tailored trousers have a slightly slimmer leg. Leave the fitted black blouse untucked, overlapping the skirt’s waistband so the pleats peek out beneath its hem.

Wear the blazer open. A large, soft black bag and black low-heeled slingbacks complete the outfit. The generous shoulders, slimmer trousers and open heels are what make this combination interesting.

Pink knitwear and a burgundy bag

A grey suit can feel soft and relaxed. Here, we pair the blazer with wide grey pleated trousers and a pale pink cardigan. The pleats at the waistband add volume through the leg, while the knitwear softens the formality of the suiting.

A white T-shirt peeks out beneath the cardigan. Let both layers fall loosely over the low waistband. Leave the blazer open enough for the pink to show as a proper block of colour.

Add a deep burgundy bag. Pale pink and burgundy belong to the same colour family but bring different qualities: the pink adds lightness, the bag a rich, dark tone. Black low-heeled pumps keep the combination calm. A look we would wear during the day and keep on for dinner.

Olive green, light denim and patterned ballet flats

For an afternoon off, we pair the grey blazer with an olive green cardigan, a white T-shirt and light blue jeans. The jeans sit low on the hips and fall long and loose. This keeps the look relaxed, even with the jacket’s defined shoulders.

The warm green works with the cool grey and faded denim. This is where Suit Yourself’s combination of blazer and bomber jacket really comes through: the lapels frame the knitwear, while the gathered hem draws the generous jacket in at the hips. A small woven bag picks up the olive green, adding another texture alongside the knit and suiting.

Round-toed ballet flats in a black-and-white cow print are the playful detail. Let a little of the toe peek out beneath the long jeans as you walk. The white already appears in the T-shirt, which helps the pattern feel part of the outfit.

Sheer black and jeans for the evening

Dinner plans, with the option of heading somewhere afterwards: a sheer black top, straight jeans and stilettos suit an evening without a fixed itinerary. Wear a simple black bralette underneath and leave the blazer open.

Washed blue-grey jeans keep the look casual. They sit low and reach the shoes, without the hem catching under the heel. Black stilettos and a small black clutch dress up the outfit, while the denim keeps it familiar.

You can also see the sheer black top in our original product photographs. They show how the open blazer falls over a light layer.

A grey hoodie and sand-coloured accessories

For days when comfort comes first, we wear a light grey zip hoodie beneath the blazer. The hood rests over the collar, with a grey T-shirt underneath. Straight grey jeans continue the colour. With its lapels and defined shoulders, Suit Yourself turns familiar casual pieces into a look we would also wear to meet friends in town.

Sand-coloured trainers bring warmth to the combination. We choose a low-profile shape with a round toe, soft suede and a caramel-coloured rubber sole. A bag with a sand-coloured body and grey side panels or a grey strap brings the two colours together.

The appeal lies in the different textures: soft sweatshirt fabric, denim, suiting and the matt finish of the accessories. A loosely tied bun works just as well as wearing your hair down.

Pink trainers, grey layers and silver

A small flash of pink can be enough to change a grey look. Here, a bright pink T-shirt sits beneath the grey zip hoodie. The hoodie extends a little below the blazer, with just a narrow strip of the T-shirt showing beneath it.

Pink trainers pick up the colour. Black laces and a black sole add a sporty contrast. We wear them with dark, relaxed jeans with a low waistband.

A smooth silver shoulder bag complements the pink without introducing another bright colour. Its clean shape works with the generous layers. With your hair in a bun, the hood and shoulder line stay clearly visible. This is how we would wear Suit Yourself for a comfortable start to the day with an outfit that still feels considered.

The blazer behind all six looks: Suit Yourself

Suit Yourself combines classic lapels with generous sleeves and an elasticated hem at hip level. Two regular front buttons and two concealed press studs at the hem give you different ways to fasten it. A small silver CS pin sits on the lapel.

The upcycled outer fabric is 95% virgin wool and 5% polyamide, with a 100% viscose lining. The blazer was handmade in Germany and is a one-off. In the shop, it is listed as an oversized fit for sizes S to XL. The product photographs show the actual cut; you will also find sizing advice and current availability on the product page.
